Staunton State Park
Regulations & Considerations
Park Rules
- Dogs must be leashed. Keep dogs on a six‑foot (or shorter), handheld leash at all times, and clean up after them to preserve both wildlife and visitor safety.
- Fires are prohibited in Staunton State Park.
- Stay on marked trails: Stick to designated hiking paths and avoid administrative roads—for safety and preservation.
- Climbing guidelines:
-
Stay on official trails to approach crags.
-
Climbing is allowed only with proper permits for installing or modifying fixed routes.
-
Wildlife Cautions
- Give wildlife space and never feed or harass them. Feeding wild animals can harm their health, change their natural behavior, and increase the risk of dangerous human–wildlife encounters.
- View from a distance. Use binoculars, zoom lenses, or spotting scopes for wildlife observation—and avoid getting close enough to disturb them.
- Secure all food and scented items. Store them in hard‑sided vehicles or bear-resistant containers, especially if required. This helps prevent bears from entering campsites.
