Staunton State Park
Overview
Just 40 miles southwest of Denver, Staunton State Park is a breathtaking 3,828-acre escape into Colorado’s natural beauty. With elevations ranging from 8,100 to over 10,000 feet, the park offers stunning landscapes that stretch from wildflower-filled meadows to towering granite cliffs. Whether you're here for a day trip or a weekend adventure, Staunton delivers an unforgettable outdoor experience.
You’ll find nearly 30 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, including eight miles dedicated solely to hikers. Visitors with mobility challenges can explore select trails through the park’s Track-Chair program, offering access to nature via all-terrain motorized wheelchairs. Rock climbers will find over 400 routes across Staunton Rocks and other formations, ranging in difficulty from 5.3 to 5.13+.
Fishing is available at Davis Ponds and Elk Falls Pond, where you can reel in rainbow and brook trout (catch limits and licenses apply). Davis Ponds are stocked monthly from May through September and also feature an ADA-accessible pier. For those looking to sharpen their aim, Staunton’s 17-lane archery range is open year-round for passholders and includes targets up to 100 yards.
Pack a picnic and relax at one of the many tables scattered near parking areas, some with charcoal grills, or reserve a group area for special occasions. Wildlife viewing, camping, geocaching, and seasonal education programs round out the park’s offerings.
Staunton State Park is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Entry is $10 per vehicle or $4 for individuals. Dogs are welcome on leashes, and horses are permitted on designated trails.
Whether you're scaling a granite cliff, hiking to a hidden waterfall, or casting a line in a peaceful pond, Staunton State Park invites you to slow down, explore, and connect with Colorado’s wild heart.
