Ouray
Getting Around
Ouray’s small size and scenic layout make it an easy town to explore on foot. The main thoroughfare, U.S. Highway 550, runs directly through town, connecting Ouray to Ridgway to the north and Silverton to the south via the famous Million Dollar Highway.
Ouray offers a seasonal free in-town shuttle bus that operates a continuous 45-minute loop, linking key spots like downtown, lodging, trailheads, the hot springs, and other visitor attractions. It runs daily from May through October, making it an easy, hassle-free way to explore the town without parking concerns.
Public Transportation
Ouray does not have an internal public bus system, but regional transportation options include private shuttles and seasonal tour vans connecting to Telluride, Montrose, and Silverton. Visitors arriving without a car often arrange transport via shuttle services from Montrose Regional Airport.
Walkability & Bike Friendliness
Ouray is highly walkable, with nearly all downtown attractions within a few blocks of each other. Sidewalks are well-maintained, and pedestrian crossings are clearly marked. Bicycling is also a pleasant option, though the surrounding terrain is mountainous, so steep climbs may challenge casual riders. Many trails and scenic routes begin directly from town, making it a great base for hiking and cycling adventures.
