Lizard Head Wilderness
Fees & Passes
There is no entrance fee to access Lizard Head Wilderness and the managing forests do not require wilderness permits or registrations for day use or overnight travel. Standard USFS wilderness rules apply, including the prohibition of motorized and mechanized equipment and travel.
Group size is limited to a maximum of fifteen people, with a combined limit of twenty-five when counting people and stock together. Dispersed camping is allowed under Leave No Trace practices and minimum-impact rules, including camping and washing at least one hundred feet from water. Special orders and local restrictions can apply within the wilderness.
A standing order for Lizard Head prohibits campfires within Navajo Basin to protect fragile alpine resources. Developed amenities are not provided at wilderness access points; there are no restrooms and no potable water, so visitors must bring and treat their own water and plan for complete self-sufficiency.
Please review current Forest Service alerts and special orders before a trip and be prepared for backcountry travel at high elevation where conditions change rapidly.
