Lizard Head Wilderness
Accessibility
Lizard Head is a designated wilderness, trails are primitive, unpaved, and often steep or rocky, with no visitor centers inside the boundary. That said, the Lizard Head Pass overlook on CO-145 provides paved parking and restrooms, plus interpretive panels and expansive mountain views right from the car. It’s a strong choice for travelers seeking scenery without committing to backcountry grades or surfaces. Potable water isn’t available at the site; plan accordingly.
Nearby trailheads (e.g., Cross Mountain) also have parking and restrooms, but trail surfaces quickly become natural (dirt/rock), with seasonal snow and mud. Expect non-ADA surfaces and significant elevation (the pass sits just over 10,200 ft).
Because wilderness policy limits infrastructure, wheelchair-friendly routes are not designated within the interior. For accessible sightseeing, the pass overlook is your best bet for high-alpine views with minimal walking.
