Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
Accessibility
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park includes several physical features designed for accessibility. At the South Rim, the visitor center entrance, parking lot, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Benches outside the visitor center offer convenient seating for those seeking rest or scenic views. Key overlooks such as Tomichi Point, Chasm View, and Sunset View offer wheelchair‐accessible paths and viewing platforms. All vault toilets along South Rim Drive are wheelchair accessible. Select campsites in the South Rim Campground (sites A21 and B1) feature concrete, level pads and accessible toilet facilities. Inside the visitor center, orientation films are compliant with accessibility standards and assistive listening devices are available, along with audio descriptions of the South Rim drive. Although the North Rim and many backcountry trails remain rugged and inaccessible, these investments help ensure that visitors with mobility challenges can enjoy the canyon’s most dramatic and memorable vistas.
